Bloom Tour

album-art

00:00

An athletic criss-cross between jazz and non-european musical traditions centered around wood-based piano preparation, Anaphora explores the power within the collective process of dreaming out sounds and sounding out dreams.
A genre and gender-free hybrid, the album [Bloom] creates a colourful textural soundscape where techno-reminiscent urban grooves bond with cyclical rhythmic machineries and hypnotic melodies.

Jonathan Ho — double bass

LINER NOTES by BO Van Der Werf

Through the addition of tiny percussive guests in the form of a piano préparé with a variety of metal and wood objects, Anaphora appears to have taken the form of a most-curiously shaped hybrid organism. It feels as a one-body community, an interbreathing of rational inputs and intuitive letting go’s. The improvisation sections are timbral explorations, gently enhancing the concepts at stake : superimposed cyclicities, subtle permanent balance between functionality and colourism, receding lines and contrary motions operating simultaneously with little sense of friction. The music regenerates itself by active rotations and reflections of ideas and actions, previously heard segments decrease or increase, sonic echoes that travel as if in dreams of past and future Blooms.

Fresh and airy, the trio’s conceptual approach is entirely poetic and plays like an athletic, yet joyful discipline in sound. Transparency and opacity in suspended motion, the three nomads are on the same flow, one of ever-changing interconnectedness. An affective practice of flying as if bee, diffusing as if vapor, contracting as if muscle or distending as if avalanche. Repeated listening is recommended.
